Pier 5 Coming to Bayside Marketplace

PIER 5

Bayside Marketplace

Breakwater Hospitality Group is pleased to announce Pier 5, a new open-air entertainment and social gathering destination set to open in Bayside Marketplace this winter. Rooted in the
site’s heritage in fishing and seafaring, Pier 5 will pay homage to the nostalgic location while infusing a modern aesthetic and programming to inspire and celebrate the area’s future.

Pier 5 is named for South Florida’s most famous fishing pier, which stood at what is now Bayside Marketplace in downtown Miami. In the 1940s and 1950s, Pier 5 was a fish market, tourist attraction and a backdrop for some of the best sport fishing in the area. It was a breeding ground for incredible innovation and development in fishing, including the invention of kite fishing. Today, Bayside is still known as the launching point for Miami’s serious sports fisherman, routinely bringing up the most impressive catches daily.

The new concept, positioned in the heart of Bayside, will operate in addition to its sister venues, The Wharf Miami and The Wharf Fort Lauderdale. Pier 5 will be open seven days a week from morning till evening and will feature a newly renovated open-air concept that is inclusive for all ages with its signature deck games; multiple shaded lounge areas and bars; and entertainment space.

“We’re extremely excited to be such an integral part of the continued evolution of this landmark property, which has become synonymous with the City of Miami and is visited by millions every year,” says Alex Mantecon, co-founder of Breakwater Hospitality Group. “Pier 5 is reflective of what Miami truly is and what people love most about the City. It’s a hub for culture, a gathering place, and the ultimate location to make memories with friends.”

“I first went to Bayside when I was 10 years old” says Emi Guerra, co-founder of Breakwater Hospitality Group. “I have so many fond memories of my childhood visiting this special place with my family. It truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on such a legacy project of this magnitude.”

“Breakwater Hospitality Group’s concepts are some of the most innovative in the food and beverage and entertainment industry, and we are thrilled that the Miami-based business has picked Bayside for its latest venture,” said Pamela Weller, Vice President of Asset Management for Bayside Marketplace. “We expect Pier 5 to be an important part of Bayside’s future, while honoring the location’s history and local community.”

More than 20 million people visit Bayside each year, and Breakwater Hospitality Group will be pleased to welcome them to Pier 5 for a taste of the true Miami experience. The project is underway in partnership with Erick Passo of Black Market, which recently opened in Bayside in the former Hooters location, as well as Rodney Barreto of the Barreto Group.
